OneTab alternatives that don’t need an account
OneTab is still one of the most installed tab managers on the Chrome Web Store, with 2,000,000 users and a 3.8 rating when we checked on November 4, 2026. People look for an alternative for a few recurring reasons: saved tabs that disappeared after an update, wanting a copy outside the browser, or simply wanting something that does not ask them to sign in.
This page compares the options we would consider ourselves. We make Tab Cabinet, so we put it last and kept to facts each product states on its own website, help pages or store listing. Store numbers are from November 4, 2026; everything else was checked on November 6, 2026.
What to look for
- Account. Does it work without signing in? An account enables sync between devices, but it also means your list lives on someone’s server.
- Where the data lives. On your computer, in the cloud, or both.
- A copy you control. Can it export to a file, and does it ever do so without being asked?
- Price model. Free, one-time, or a subscription, and what the free plan limits.
Session Buddy
Session Buddy (1,000,000 users, 3.3 rating) works without a login: its site says you can use it “for as long as you want without a login,” and that your data is stored on your device, “never on any server.” It is the strongest of the free tools on export. It copies or exports tabs in more than 15 formats, including JSON, CSV, Markdown and HTML, makes backup files from its gear menu, and has an automatic backup since version 4.1.
Keep in mind: version 4 was a full rewrite in March 2024, and some users reported missing sessions after the automatic update. If that happened to you, see how to get lost Session Buddy sessions back.
Tab Session Manager
Tab Session Manager (100,000 users, 3.5 rating) saves and restores windows and tabs, and its store listing mentions importing and exporting sessions, optional cloud sync, and versions for Firefox and Edge. It needs no account for basic use and is free.
Keep in mind: as with every extension that stores data in the browser, export now and then. One recent one-star review describes a crash that wiped saved sessions and backups.
Chrome’s own bookmarks
You may not need an extension at all. Ctrl + Shift + D (⌘ + Shift + D on Mac) saves every open tab as bookmarks in a new folder, and the Bookmark Manager can export all bookmarks as an HTML file. It is free and needs nothing extra.
Keep in mind: there are no sessions, no tab groups or pinned tabs, and the export always contains every bookmark. Our guide to backing up tabs to a file walks through it.
Toby (needs an account)
Toby (300,000 users, 3.6 rating) is often suggested as an OneTab alternative, so it belongs here even though it does not meet the “no account” test. Its help center says “Toby needs a free account so your tabs are saved safely and sync across your devices,” and its site says your spaces stay in sync across the browsers and devices you sign in to. The free Starter plan holds up to 60 saved tabs; Productivity costs $6 per member a month, or $4.50 a month billed yearly (pricing).
Good for: people who want the same tabs on several computers and are happy with a subscription.

Tab Cabinet
Tab Cabinet is the tool we make. It saves every tab in a window in one click and reopens them with pinned tabs and tab groups in place. There is no account and no server: sessions stay in Chrome on your computer. With Pro, every save also writes a JSON file and a Markdown file to Downloads/TabCabinet/, and a daily snapshot adds one copy a day. It is new, so it has none of the years of reviews the tools above have, and it only runs in desktop Chrome. Free for 5 sessions; Pro is $5 once, with a 14-day refund.
